Dear Prospective Participant,

You are invited to participate in a survey conducted by Dr Adéle da Veiga of the School of Computing (SoC) in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) at the University of South Africa (Unisa). 

The survey you have received has been designed to study the perception towards information security culture in South Africa. It is anticipated that the information we will gain from this survey will ultimately help us to assist organisations in improving their information security initiatives and thus protect information. 

By completing this survey, you agree that the information you provide may be used for research purposes, including dissemination through peer-reviewed journal publications and conference proceedings. 

You are, however, under no obligation to complete the survey and you can withdraw prior to submitting the survey. 

The survey is developed to be anonymous, which means that there will be no way of connecting the information that you provide to you personally. Consequently, you will not be able to withdraw from the study once you have clicked the send button at the end of the survey based on the anonymous nature of the survey.

If you choose to participate in this survey, it will take up no more than 20 minutes of your time.

You will not benefit from your participation as an individual, however, it is envisioned that the findings of this study will contribute to improving the information security culture in organisations in South Africa.

We do not foresee that you will experience any negative consequences by completing the survey. The researcher(s) undertake to keep any information provided herein confidential, not to let it out of our possession, and to report on the findings from the perspective of the participating group and not from the perspective of any individual or individual organisation.

The records will be kept for future research purposes to track improvement and to conduct comparative studies. You will not be reimbursed or receive any incentives for your participation in the survey.

The research was reviewed and approved by the School of Computing’s Research Ethics Committee (Ethical clearance number: 76/ADV/2016/CSET_SOC).
